Aptly named for the pine trees in abundance here, The Pines Recreation Area is located along Fort Peck Lake. With great points along high hills, this spot is perfect for a nighttime hike to get rewarded with stunning views of the cosmos.

Head to the northwest area of Fort Peck Lake to access the Pines Campground—located between Glasgow and Fort Peck, this spot makes for an easy place to set up camp and search for stars.

Getting There

FROM FORT PECK: Take HWY 24 3½ miles, turn left on Maxness Road. Go 5½ miles, continuing on Willow Creek Road for 8¼ miles. Turn left on The Pines Road and go 13½ miles. There are a few unmarked side roads along the way that have campsites in addition to one at the end of The Pines Road.
