Amenities
Known for its expansive beauty and rustic location, Strawberry Hill Recreation Area includes more than six square miles of native grasses, fragrant sagebrush and striking rock formations—it’s no wonder people refer to this spot as a “hidden gem.” Possibilities are endless for visitors: Hike around the area and take in views of the Yellowstone Valley, bring a pair of binoculars to birdwatch or simply marvel at the diverse array of wildflowers. And then, when night falls, settle in to enjoy the bright stars above.
The area, operated by the Department of Natural Resource and Conservation and the Bureau of Land Management, offers only primitive camping—no dumpsters or facilities are available, so be sure to account for this in advance. No campfires or fireworks are allowed, as this particular area can be very susceptible to wildfires. Parking is available at the entrance or high-clearance, 4WD vehicles can follow a primitive road into the area.
