Hay Canyon Campground is located in the Little Belt Mountains, situated in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. The dramatic cliffs on either side of the campground give the entire site an air of true wildness in which to experience Montana’s sparkling night sky.

This six-site campground is conveniently placed along the South Fork of the Judith River, making it an exceptional area for river access. There are endless activities for visitors to engage in: stream fishing, horseback riding on nearby trails, hiking, motorbike/ATV riding and more. The site is handicapped accessible and comes equipped with fire pits, toilets, picnic tables and spaces for RV camping (recommended length not exceeding 24 feet). Pets are allowed on leashes.

This area is frequented by bears, so make sure to store your goods properly and dispose of waste responsibly! To learn more about bear safety, visit: Be Bear Aware.

During the Day

  • Hike the intermediate 20-mile out-and-back South Fork Judith River Trail #439.
  • Visit the Judith Basin County Museum and Prairie Past Museum in Stanford and the Hobson Museum in Hobson.
  • Bring your off-road vehicle for the ATV trail.
