Fourchette Bay Campground is yet another excellent spot to set up camp along the shores of Fort Peck Lake and wait for the stars to come out. Just be sure to watch for poor road conditions and stock up on food and gas—this one is especially remote, but that just makes the stargazing all the more spectacular. The stargazing is so good, in fact, that Fourchette Bay receives a Class-1 rating on the Bortle Scale, indicating that it is recognized as an excellent dark-sky site.

During the Day

• Go fishing on Fort Peck Lake.
• Watch for wildlife on the UL Bend National Wildlife Reserve (Note the drive is over rough roads and often impassable during wet weather).
• Visit the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum in Malta.

Getting There

FROM MALTA: Take HWY 364 3¾ miles and go left on Short Oil Road for ½ mile, go right on Content Road for 6¼ miles to Sun Prairie Road. Turn right and stay on Sun Prairie Road for 30¾ miles. Turn left on Fourchette Bay Road and go 1¾ miles to Reynolds Road. Stay on Reynolds Road for 11¼ miles to campground. Last 20 miles of access road can become impassable during wet weather.
