Flat Lake is located 7 miles east of Fort Peck, far enough away to be unmarred by light pollution and making it an excellent location for stargazing. You’ll find primitive campsites, picnic tables, vault toilets, firepits and a boat ramp.

Flat Lake Campground is on the north side of Fort Peck Lake (the fifth largest man-made reservoir in the United States) and lies within the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. The campsites are located near the edge of the lake, between the world’s largest hydraulic earthen dam and the spillway.

During the Day

  • Go boating on the 130-mile-long lake that has more shoreline than California has coastline.
  • Make an appointment to visit nearby Fort Peck Interpretive Center and discover extensive information about the dam, fossils, fish & wildlife.
  • Explore the Wildlife Refuge.

Getting There

FROM FORT PECK: Take Yellowstone Road/Yaeger Road to HWY 24, turn left and go 2 miles to Flat Lake Road and turn right. Go ¾ mile to campground.
