Enjoy a scenic drive to Crooked Creek Campground, which includes 20 campsites, a picnic shelter, swimming beach, boat ramp and potable water.

It offers the perfect spot to set up camp, hang by the water and watch the stars light up the night sky without any noise or light pollution from nearby towns. In fact, the stargazing at Crooked Creek is so good that it's been given a Class-1 rating on the Bortle Scale, a rating that identifies it as an excellent dark-sky site.

Note: Since the closest town is over an hour's drive from Crooked Creek, be sure to stock up on food and gas before heading out!

During the Day

• Go boating (campground boat ramp is not always available due to changing water levels).
• Fish on the Missouri River.
• Drive to the small town of Winnett and stock up at their general store.

Getting There

FROM WINNETT: On Hwy 200 turn left on Dovetail / Valentine Road go 13 miles veering right onto Dovetail Road for another 14 miles to a T-intersection at 79 Trail. Turn right on 79 Trail and go ¾ mile, then turn left on Crooked Creek Road; follow for 21½ miles to camp. Check road conditions before heading out—it can be impassable in bad weather.
