Buffalo Camp is just 4 miles north of the Charles M. Russel National Wildlife Reserve and is surrounded by recreation opportunities on the American Prairie Reserve. Opened in 2011, this campground offers six tent sites and nine RV sites—all accessible by a gravel road.

Stargazers can simply step outside their tent or RV on a clear night for a view of the cosmos but be sure to watch for wildlife if you venture away from your campsite for an even darker lookout.

During the Day

  • Go geocaching nearby.
  • Explore the 1-mile campground hiking trail.
  • Take a day trip to Malta.
  • Go fishing on the Missouri River.

Getting there

FROM MALTA: Go 4 miles on HWY 364 then veer left on Content Road and go 7¾ miles. Turn right on Sun Prairie Road and go 38 miles. The campground will be on the right. Check the map from American Prairie.
